There has been much controversy over the new Facebook timeline feature but is it as bad as everyone thinks? – This is the question that I intend to answer. At first glance you are hit with a flood of information from friends to a map. However the cover photo takes centre stage as it takes up the majority of the screen when the timeline first loads.

As you scroll down even more friends pop up and pictures and status’ hit you full in the face as you see what has been going on over the last couple of days. The timeline shows things a lot more visually than your wall, for example before if you became friends with someone it would say in small text that you were now friends now however a picture of them now appears along with the writing.

Due to this more visual experience Facebook has come under fire for privacy protection breeches and people are also unhappy with the fact that the change is becoming compulsory. The privacy criticism comes because people think that there information is now easier for strangers to access their information and photos because they can just click on a certain month that they want to look at.

Facebook however have said that they have included software that allows you to hide or delete things that you don’t want people to see both before and after your timeline is published. They went onto say that the reason for the change is to improve the visual interaction with the site.

Personally I think that there isn’t that much difference. Yes, OK it is easier to find information on there, but in a world where people talk about what they have had for breakfast is that much to moan about. I think that the new timeline is a good improvement and for all the people that complain about how easy it is to find pictures now, it always was easy, if you don’t want people to see it then perhaps you shouldn’t put it on social media!

What Do Our Customers Think?
"The guys from OffSight are genuine, friendly people. They took a real interest in my business and did a great job of setting up my web site. They are very responsive whenever I run into a problem or need something sorting out. My lack of knowledge has not been an obstacle and they have always been able to take time to explain, in plain English, how things work."
