More than 2000 online fake shopping sites have been closed by the police recently, and this campaign is said to be leading into the run up to Christmas. Police have been using domain registrars to find and shut down the domains.

Customers have been tempted by the low prices and have been receiving either counterfeit or no goods at all for their money. Gangs and cyber thieves have been setting up these sites in bulk and are thought to be trying to get credit card and bank details off their customers.

DI hoare has told people to consider using their credit card for payments of over £100 and to reserve a card for online payments only. DI hoare also stated that people should ignore advertisement  e-mails from unknown sources and to check out a websites credentials before buying products from them.

open quotes The guys from OffSight are genuine, friendly people. They took a real interest in my business and did a great job of setting up my web site. They are very responsive whenever I run into a problem or need something sorting out. My lack of knowledge has not been an obstacle and they have always been able to take time to explain, in plain English, how things work. close quotes
